Some presents are a one shot deal, but others keep on giving.
Two years ago, Katie and I gave ourselves what seemed like an extravagant gift at the time- a mini-retreat on the coast in a little Airbnb on Salmon Creek to hash out a plan for a podcast and program we called Supernova Support.
Two nights away from maternal responsibilities took some wrangling, but we made it happen. We schemed out topics for an eight episode series and even did a creative map-making activity (more on that in another post) that would show us the way to achieve our goal.
The serenity of the view from the back porch of the little house gave us exactly the emotional/spiritual space we needed to allow our dream to take shape. We didn’t know how much more time it would take to sort through all obstacles, and it’s probably a good thing we didn’t or we might not have started!
That gift we dared to give ourselves has kept on giving way beyond what we could have anticipated.
The first photo shows us at our radio spot on KCRB(still time to donate during their December pledge drive!) this Thursday where we got to relive a little of the Bootleg Honeys glory days with DJ host Doug Jayne ,who was a great supporter, and share the news about our Women’s Not So Open Mic, Supernova Support Podcast, and upcoming weekly song salons and courses in January 2025(see more about them below!).
And giving….
This Sunday, December 15th, Katie and I get to celebrate our Sagittarius birthdays(9th & 16th) with a crew of kick-ass women sharing their songs and performances at the last open mic of the year! (Don’t worry, Women’s Not So Open Mic continues in January and beyond…)
I’m so glad I’m finally becoming more and more willing to give myself the gift of ongoing support, inspiration, and information. Katie and I can’t help but want to share what we have and connect you to the wisdom of the amazing women showing up in the Supernova creative community.
Which gift are you ready to give yourself?
We can’t make ourselves be magically ready to do things we’re not ready to do. I’m turning 53, and it’s taken me for-fucking-ever to allow myself to get back into music in the baby-step ways I can.
Maybe your gift is saying, “Thanks Katie and Karen, this all sounds nice, but I just don’t have time and energy for anything but survival right now.” Fantastic! We support you in that marvelous declaration of self-care boundaries.
Maybe you just enjoy reading these posts or listening to the podcast when you can steal a little time while you do chores or work out. Great! That’s a wonderful way to let yourself know you’re not alone on your creative path.
Maybe you’re ready to come listen at the Not So Open mic, or even ready to sign up for a slot in January! Woo hoo! How awesome to share your gift and support others.
But just maybe, you’re feeling extra-daring and want to dip your foot into the pool by responding to this post and letting us know you’re interested in our upcoming weekly Song Salons or Song Support 101 courses. Or curious about one-on-one vocal or songwriting coaching. We’d love to work with you!
Check out the options below and let us know your interest level in the comments or email us at supernovacreativecommunity@gmail.com so Katie and I can get things ready for an exciting start to the new year!
